Bentworth Area Memorial Day Services Cancelled Due to Coronavirus Guidelines

There will be no public Memorial Day services in the Bentworth area this year: no speeches in front of the war memorial in the middle of Bentleyville, no patriotic songs by the Bentworth High School Band, no 21-gun salute to honor those who served our country, and no prayers for our deceased veterans.

Changes to this annual tradition are due to the current state-mandated Coronavirus guidelines that prohibit large gatherings and promote social distancing.

Chuck McKeta, of American Legion Post No. 165 of Bentleyville, said it’s unfortunate, but there will be no public Memorial Day services at any of the five local honor rolls. However, there will be a private service held in Bentleyville sometime during the Memorial Day weekend.
